Description
The Banded Trochus Snail (Trochus sp.) is one of the most effective and reliable algae-grazing gastropods for marine and reef aquariums. Native to the Indo-Pacific, these cone-shaped snails actively graze film algae, diatoms, and cyanobacteria from rockwork, glass, and substrate — covering surfaces that many other clean-up crew species miss.

Care level: Beginner. Minimum tank size: Suitable for all sizes. Diet: Algivore — grazes film algae, diatoms, cyanobacteria. Reef safe: Yes. Advantage over Turbo snails: Lightweight and self-righting — significantly lower livestock loss risk if displaced from rockwork. Stocking level: Approximately one snail per 4-5L of display volume, adjusted to algae load. Important: Sensitive to copper-based medications and rapid salinity changes — acclimate carefully. Origin: Indo-Pacific.
