Description
The Cleaner Shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis) is one of the most popular and recognisable invertebrates in the marine hobby, native to the Indo-Pacific. It establishes cleaning stations where it removes parasites, dead tissue, and debris from visiting fish — including large predatory species that would normally predate shrimp. This makes it a genuinely functional addition to a healthy reef system, not merely decorative.

Care level: Beginner. Minimum tank size: 100L. Diet: Omnivore — feeds on parasites, detritus, and supplemental frozen foods. Reef safe: Yes. Sourcing: Wild-collected with some Aquacultured specimens ocassionally available in trade. Housing: Compatible in pairs or small groups. Avoid large aggressive wrasse and triggerfish. Origin: Indo-Pacific.
