Description
The Regal Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus), also known as the Regal Tang or Blue Palette Surgeonfish, is one of the most iconic reef aquarium fish — distinguished by its vivid royal blue body with bold black patterning and a bright yellow tail. This is a Coral Sea specimen which differs slightly in colour from its Western Indian Ocean counterpart.

Care level: Intermediate. Minimum tank size: 300L (active swimmer). Diet: Primarily herbivore — supplement with dried algae (nori), frozen mysis and brine shrimp, and quality pellet foods. Reef safe: Yes. Health notes: Can be prone to White Spot disease— UV sterilisation and quarantine protocol strongly recommended. Behaviour: Active, wide-ranging swimmer. Best to keep singly and be aware of keeping with other surgeonfish tankmates. Origin: Coral Sea.
